The PGA District is turning Friday night into a Halloween movie outing. On October 16, the district's complimentary Spooky Movie Series features Halloweentown at 7 p.m., giving Frisco families a festive evening that does not require buying movie tickets. The outdoor screening takes place at 3255 PGA Parkway, with the event listed through 9 p.m.

Why Halloweentown makes a good October pick

For many families, Halloweentown is a nostalgic October favorite: a magical-town adventure with witches, family secrets and a playful spooky atmosphere. The film offers a different kind of Halloween experience from haunted attractions or horror movies. Parents should still consider their children's sensitivity to fantasy scares. If younger viewers get restless, an outdoor setting may make it easier to step away briefly without disrupting a traditional theater audience.

Bring a blanket, not a lawn chair

PGA Frisco's event rules are specific. Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn blanket for sitting, but lawn chairs are not permitted. Outside food and drinks are also prohibited. The district says its restaurants will be open before and after the screening, with concession snacks available for purchase from roaming carts. Pets are welcome if kept on a leash, though a crowded film event may not suit every animal. Check the event page for any updated restrictions before heading out.

Turn a free movie into a complete family evening

Because the screening begins at 7 p.m., arriving ahead of time gives visitors a chance to find a comfortable viewing area and explore food options. Choose dinner before the movie or purchase concessions during the show, depending on your family's routine. Keep in mind that restaurant meals and snacks cost extra even though the film itself is complimentary. A lightweight layer can help as the temperature drops after sunset, and a portable blanket makes the outdoor seating more comfortable.

Three more Fridays of spooky-season entertainment? Two remain after this week

The district's published October lineup started with The Haunted Mansion on October 2 and Twitches on October 9. Halloweentown is the October 16 feature. The remaining films are Hocus Pocus on October 23 and Hocus Pocus 2 on October 30, each scheduled for a 7 p.m. start. That gives families another two Friday opportunities after this week's screening. If you cannot make Halloweentown, mark one of those dates instead. Film programming is subject to change, so verify the current lineup before leaving.

What makes the PGA District a distinctive setting

Unlike a conventional cinema, an outdoor district screening lets moviegoers enjoy the shared atmosphere of a public gathering place. Families can meet friends, bring a blanket and watch a familiar movie together. It is a useful option for residents looking for an activity that feels seasonal without the planning or expense of a large Halloween attraction. The district's restaurants and gathering spaces also make it convenient to extend the evening, although dining availability and individual business hours may vary.

Know before you go

The key details: Friday, October 16, 2026; 7 to 9 p.m.; PGA District, 3255 PGA Parkway, Frisco; complimentary admission. Bring a blanket and follow the posted restrictions on chairs and outside refreshments. Weather can affect outdoor events, so consult the official PGA Frisco listing on Friday for changes or cancellation notices. For parents, checking the film's rating and discussing any potentially scary scenes beforehand can make the evening smoother.

Plan your visit: Check the official PGA Frisco movie schedule. Details were checked against the organizer's published information on October 14, 2026.

Two Fridays left after this week is a decent lineup. I just hope they do not change Hocus Pocus 2 before October 30.

Two more Fridays is a nice cushion if this week does not work. Programming is subject to change, so it is worth confirming Hocus Pocus 2 is still set for October 30 before you go.

Bring a thicker blanket than you think you need. The ground at these district events cools off once the sun is down.

      marcus_f· Oct 18, 6:17 PM

Pat NguyenLearned that in September. The ground stays cold even if the air feels fine at 7. Extra blanket is going in the car.

I was hoping for something a little spookier than Halloweentown. Still, a complimentary family film is better than skipping Halloween plans altogether.

Halloweentown leans more playful than scary, which is part of its appeal for many families. If you'd like another classic, Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2 are still ahead on October 23 and 30.

A portable blanket is good advice for more than seating. After 7 p.m. In mid October, a light layer makes the open lawn much more comfortable.

    • RM
      Ron M.· Oct 17, 6:32 PM

Sandra PatelYeah, it cools off fast once the sun drops. Last time we ended up using the blanket more as a wrap than a seat.

Leashed pets are allowed, which is thoughtful, but a packed movie night may not suit every dog. We learned that the hard way at a crowded festival last fall.

You're right to weigh that carefully, pets are welcome on a leash, but a crowded film night may not suit every animal.

The reminder about fantasy scares is fair. Our youngest got uneasy at a similar outdoor movie last fall.

    • HL
      Hannah L.· Oct 16, 9:32 PM

Luis OrtegaSorry that happened. Was it the movie itself or more the dark and the crowd? Trying to figure out if our five year old is ready.

      Raza BeggAuthor· Oct 17, 7:30 PM

Thanks for sharing that, the fantasy-scare reminder is meant for exactly this situation. An outdoor setting can also make it easier to step away briefly if a younger viewer gets uneasy.

I appreciate the note about weather changes. I will check the PGA Frisco listing Friday before we head to PGA Parkway.

Sandra KimSame plan here. Wind has messed up a couple outdoor nights already this fall. I would rather check than drive over for nothing.

      Raza BeggAuthor· Oct 16, 9:56 PM

Glad that note helps, checking the official PGA Frisco listing on Friday is the surest way to catch any weather changes before you head to 3255 PGA Parkway.

Leashed pets are allowed, but a crowded screening may stress some dogs. I would skip bringing ours this Friday.

    • RB
      Raza BeggAuthor· Oct 16, 8:17 PM

That is a thoughtful call. Leashed pets are welcome, but a crowded screening may not suit every animal, so skipping this Friday is a reasonable choice.

      Kevin T.· Oct 17, 3:44 PM

mike.rWe are leaving ours home too. He does fine on walks, but a bunch of kids and a loud movie is a lot for him.

    Rachel K.· Oct 15, 5:26 PM

If we miss October 16, Hocus Pocus on the 23rd is the one I would rather see anyway. The October 30 sequel is a nice backup if plans change.

I appreciate the note about fantasy scares in Halloweentown. We will talk through the witch scenes with our youngest before we go.

An outdoor showing at 3255 PGA Parkway feels more relaxed than a theater. Kids can shift around on a blanket without bothering a whole row.

    • JP
      Jenny P.· Oct 16, 11:55 AM

Carla NguyenThat is why we like these. Our little one shifts around the whole time and nobody in a row is stuck dealing with it.

  • LM
    Luis Mendez· Oct 15, 2:45 AM

Free admission is welcome, but the no outside food rule adds up if you have kids. Concessions and a restaurant meal can erase the savings pretty quickly.

    • CW
      Chris W.· Oct 16, 6:49 AM

Luis MendezSame issue for us. We ate at home and only bought drinks so the free movie did not turn into a big bill.

    • RB
      Raza BeggAuthor· Oct 16, 2:43 PM

That's a fair point. The movie itself is complimentary, but restaurant meals and concession snacks do cost extra, so it's worth budgeting if you plan to eat on site.

  • PS
    Priya S.· Oct 15, 2:00 AM

The restaurants along PGA Parkway were a good stop before the last screening. Eating first meant we did not have to hunt for the concession carts in the dark.

      Marcus Hale· Oct 15, 10:34 PM

Priya S.Which place did you go to? We are looking for something quick so we are seated before it gets dark.

    • RB
      Raza BeggAuthor· Oct 16, 8:28 PM

That's a smart approach, the district's restaurants are open before the screening, so dinner first can make the evening much smoother once the lights go down.

We caught Twitches on October 9 and the lawn filled up faster than I thought. Arriving a bit before 7 gave us room to spread out.

The blanket only rule is the one detail that gives me pause. Lawn chairs would be much easier for older guests who cannot sit on the ground.

Dave ThompsonI feel the same way. My mom cannot get up off the ground easily, so a blanket night is a tough sell for her.

    • BO

    • RS

Tom AlvarezYep. The free movie is the easy part. Dinner for the family still adds up once you sit down at one of the restaurants.

    Priya S.· Oct 14, 7:19 AM

Banning outside food and drinks feels strict for a family event. Not every kid wants what the roaming carts are selling.

    • NP
      Nora P.· Oct 14, 9:12 PM

Priya S.It does feel strict. We feed the kids at home first and just buy a small snack if they ask. Less complaining that way.

    • RB
      Raza BeggAuthor· Oct 15, 12:40 AM

Outside food and drinks are prohibited under the posted rules. Restaurants will be open before and after the film, and concession snacks are available from roaming carts if that menu works for your family.

  • JH
    Jordan Hale· Oct 14, 7:11 AM

We caught Twitches on the 9th and the spot filled up fast. Arriving early made it much easier to settle in.

  • K
    kim_87· Oct 14, 2:03 AM

The 7 to 9 p.m. Window is clear, which helps. Does anyone know if they start right at 7 or wait for it to get dark?

    • RB
      Raza BeggAuthor· Oct 15, 9:54 AM

The screening is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. And is listed through 9 p.m. For whether they hold for full dark, the official PGA Frisco event page is the best place to confirm.

  • DT
    Dave Thompson· Oct 14, 12:48 AM

I am not thrilled about the lawn chair ban. Sitting on a blanket for the full show will be rough on some backs.

    • RB
      Raza BeggAuthor· Oct 15, 10:11 PM

That is a fair concern for a full-length outdoor show. The district’s rules encourage a lawn blanket and do not permit lawn chairs, so a thicker blanket is the best option within those restrictions.

  • MG
    Maria G.· Oct 14, 12:30 AM

Halloweentown is a good October pick for families. The witch town story feels festive without turning into a horror night.

    • DK
      Dana K.· Oct 14, 8:01 AM

Maria G.Agreed. My kids like that it stays playful. We are bringing the little cousins this Friday.

    • RB
      Raza BeggAuthor· Oct 15, 6:30 AM

Thank you, that festive, not-quite-horror feel is a big part of why Halloweentown makes a good October family pick.
